This policy explains what personal information Weary Pines collects, why, how long we keep it and what your rights are. We have tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at jamie@wearypines.com

Who we are

Weary Pines is an independent music studio making 80s horror and synth music, which we license to filmmakers, creators and game makers. Our website is https://wearypines.com.

The data controller responsible for your information is Jamie Chambers – Jam FX Ltd, trading as Weary Pines, registered in England and Wales, company number 16023611.

The short version

What we collect and why

When you browse the site (only if you accept cookies)

If you click “Accept” on our cookie banner, our own first-party analytics records how the site is used: pages viewed, tracks previewed and how much of each you listened to, clicks on track players and outbound links, what you search for on the site, items added to your cart and checkouts started. We also record the website or campaign link you arrived from, your approximate country and your device type (mobile or desktop). This is stored on our own server and is not shared with advertising networks.

We use it to understand which music people enjoy, what they look for and can’t find, and which of our social posts and campaigns bring people to the site, so we can make more of what works. Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by clearing the cookies for our site; the banner will then ask you again.

Anything that looks like an email address or a web link typed into a search box is discarded and never stored.

Short links

Links such as wearypines.com/tune-in in our social profiles count the number of clicks. This count contains no personal information and does not use cookies.

When you sign up for free music or our mailing list

If you sign up for a free score, a free licence or our mailing list, we collect your name, email address and, where you tick the box, your consent to receive emails from us. If you had already browsed the site with cookies accepted, your earlier browsing (as described above) is linked to your sign-up so we can understand which music brought you here and send you things you’ll actually like.

Legal basis: consent for marketing emails; performance of a contract for delivering the free download or licence you asked for.

When you buy a licence

When you buy through our shop we collect your name, email address, billing address and country, company name (if given) and what you bought. Payments are handled by Stripe/Paypal/Visa/Mastercard we never see or store your full card details.

Every licence has a licence ID (for example WP-1234-AB12CD34EF). Anyone who has your licence ID can check it on our public Check a licence page. The page shows only your first name and last initial, your company name if you gave one, the purchase date and the tracks covered, so that clients, platforms and collaborators can confirm your licence is genuine. It never shows your email address, full name or address.

Legal basis: performance of a contract (supplying and verifying your licence), and legal obligation (keeping business and tax records).

When we contact creators and businesses

We sometimes contact podcasters, YouTubers, filmmakers, game developers and production companies whose work suits our music. We use business contact details they have made public (for example on their website or channel), together with notes on their project. We will only contact you a small number of times, you can ask us to stop at any time, and we will then not contact you again.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in offering our music to people who make work it suits.

When you email us or leave a comment

If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can reply and keep a record of it. If comments are open on a post and you leave one, we collect what you enter, your IP address and browser details (for spam detection). An anonymised string made from your email address (a “hash”) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you use it (Gravatar privacy policy); your profile picture is then shown next to your comment.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying to you and keeping the site free of spam.

Emails from us

We send emails through Drip. If you have opted in, we may send you new music, free downloads, offers and news. Drip records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked, so we can see what people find useful. We also group subscribers by how they interact with us (for example new fans, or people who have previewed licences), so the emails you get are relevant.

You can unsubscribe with the link in any email, or by emailing us. We only mark you as opted in if you gave consent yourself, for example by ticking a box, signing up, or telling us directly; if you have unsubscribed or told us no, we never switch that back on.
