Jamie and Don met at four years old, at primary school in Derry, in the North of Ireland – a small city with little access to music or film, the kind of place where you had to go looking for the things you loved. They stayed friends through childhood, drifted, and found their way back to each other as teenagers, both quietly obsessed with music, though they never once wrote or played together.

Jamie left for Leeds College of Music to study film and TV scoring. Don stayed home, teaching piano and moving into filmmaking, turning into a virtuoso pianist, the kind who writes a finished piece in one take. What never changed was horror.

On a visit home, over dinner, they finally said out loud what they’d both been thinking for years: why isn’t anyone scoring horror the way they grew up loving it? Weary Pines started that night. Their first job was scoring In Search of Darkness, and somehow it just kept going from there. They’re writing their first album now – the closest they’ve come yet to making exactly the music they wanted to hear as kids in Derry with nothing to make it with.
